Pox

Pox (pronounced posh) is a Spirti originating from the highlands of Chiapas. Based on Corn and Wheat.
he Tzotziles and Tzeltales an indigenous people are producing this Spirit for their Rituals aswell as for their social live. It is used as an offering but also to heal Translated Pox means „medicine, cure“ Main ingredients are spring water, corn, sugar cane, cane sugar.

Pox is produced in this way. Barrels of about 200 liters get filled with the above named ingredients and on the first day approx. every second hour it gets stirred with a wooden panel. The next day it will ce covered with a plastic and let ferment for about a week. After the week you have got a prehispanic drink named „Chicha“ Beloved by the market visitors in Los Altos de Chiapas. Now the „Chicha“ gets destilled in a pot with still and coild made of copper.
